Everyone! There is some fantastic news. This week was great. Isn't that fantastic?
So I will just go in chronological order for this week, because it started off well... continually progressing till it became amazing!!
Service
So we started up on a new service, we are working for a charity here in Brockton, called Catholic Charities. (Surprisingly, there really isn't anything noticeably connected to the Catholic church at the building or charity itself) But it is a food pantry, and they also have classrooms where they offer English classes, CNA programs and I think just other various things. So this past week, we organzied a room so we could fit boxes on boxes on boxes of donated toys for the kids this upcoming Christmas, and then after that, we helped people through the food pantry. It was cool, they give people a shopping cart, and they let them walk through the pantry and essentially "shop" and then they take their food home. It was awesome. Not to mention, that about 50% of the people that come in are Haitian. Such a good finding opportunity. We're looking into getting involved with the English classes there.
Esaie
So this week, we had another fantastic lesson with our investigator, Esaie! We taught him all about the 10 commandments. Sometimes we just forget he is 12, because he's such a smart kid! Everyone that meets him thinks he's like 18. (including myself)
But we FINALLY had him and (surprisingly) his mom show up to church on Sunday! It was a little crazy, since it was the primary program we had sacrament all together, with the English and Portuguese wards. And everyone knows how the primary programs are, extremely cute, and maybe just 15-20 minutes too long :). We haven't gotten to follow up with him on how he liked it yet, but we are hoping he wants to come back. If his mom enjoyed it, hopefully she will let him get baptized (and she can follow shortly thereafter :))
Dalyse
So guess what, we found Dalyse again!! She is now, sadly, living in a motel on one of the busiest streets in Brockton. She is in government funded housing, and it is rough. But she says she is happy, and we finally got to teach her again. We were so happy to find that she remembers almost everything we taught her!
She came to church yesterday, and she still really enjoys it! And even more so now that we have all 3 hours in Creole. :)
The Golden Find
So this week, we received a referral for a lady (i'm going to leave her name out for now) and she had the most American name I have ever heard. But the sisters, who referred her, assured us she was Haitian. So we knocked on the door, found another lady (who was SO shocked we could speak creole :D) there who said the lady we were looking for was asleep but asked us when we could come back. We said "how about Saturday at 2?". She agreed.
We showed up Saturday, not knowing what to expect, but we found 3 of the NICEST most prepared Haitian ladies EVER. The lady we were looking for (who is super-haitian), her mom, and the lady who originally answered the door. They are all 3 from Saint-Marc (the place I have visited in Haiti) and they have all been here for a very short amount of time. We taught them all about the restoration of the gospel, and they loved it. It was such a good first lesson. They had so many questions, and they all got so excited. One of them, has a newborn baby that is only 4 months old! (mom i'll try to get a picture for you)
They are all planning on coming to church this upcoming Sunday!! Cannot wait to go teach them again!!
